The application of Ondokuz Mayıs University (OMÜ), carried out under the auspices of the Ministry of Environment, Urbanization and Climate Change and supported by the World Bank within the scope of the “Public and Municipal Renewable Energy Project (KAYEP),” has been approved.
Within the framework of the project, a ground-mounted Solar Power Plant (SPP) with a capacity of 2 megawatts will be installed on OMÜ’s Kurupelit Campus.
Officials from the Samsun Provincial Directorate of Environment, Urbanization and Climate Change, along with Mehmet Yarar, the owner of Yararlı Enerji, the contractor company, visited OMÜ Rector Prof. Dr. Fatma Aydın in her office to provide information about the project and exchange views.
Following the visit, the delegation, together with Vice Rector Prof. Dr. Alper Kesten, conducted inspections at the site where the SPP will be constructed. The site visit was also attended by Head of Construction and Technical Affairs Barış Alkur, Campus Planning Branch Manager Hakan Yıldız, as well as representatives from the Provincial Directorate and the contractor company.
The project is planned to be completed and put into service in December 2025. Once the SPP becomes operational, it is expected to meet approximately one-third of OMÜ’s electricity demand, marking a significant step toward the university’s “Sustainable Green Campus” goal.
